Abstract | Poly(methyl methacrylate) substrates were immersed in suspensions containing bioactive 50CaO・50SiO(2) (mol%) glass particles (45 μm in diameter) and a 6:4 (volume fraction) mixture of ethanol and THF, and an ultrasonic energy was applied to the system. A layer of glass particles was implanted and covered more than 50% of the substrate surface. Thin film X-ray diffraction patterns and FT-IR reflection spectra indicated deposition of apatite on the glass-implanted substrates after they were soaked for 12 h in a simulated body fluid similar in apatite-deposition ability to the human blood plasma. Flake-like apatite crystallites formed on the substrate soaked in SBF for 3 days. |

Abstract | We investigated the usefulness of Gafchromic MD-55 film (Nuclear Associates, Inc.) for measuring the radiation doses on the radiotherapy of laryngeal cancers. Since larynx has thin wedge-shaped structure in anterior neck adjacent to airway, the radiation doses to the lesion may be diminished because of build-up and build-down. So, the dose has been measured with conventional measuring systems such as thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD). However, it was not possible to evaluate the dose distribution correctly using TLD, because it is impossible to float a TLD chip in an air cavity. In this study, we employed Gafchromic MD-55 film as a dosimeter, for it can be set on the area of interest and with a measurability of dose range of 3 to 100 Gy, though it has no energy dependency. And this radiometer is composition near the soft tissue of the human body. The dose distributions to larynx were investigated with this film using neck phantom under each radiation beam energy of 4, 6 and 10 MV x-rays. Our neck phantom is made from acrylic resin and simulates a normal larynx on the basis of image information of computed tomography (CT). Moreover we observed secondary build-up and build-down curves in tissue in the vicinity of air cavities, especially at 10 MV x-rays. These findings suggest that patients with TI-T2 glottic cancers with anterior commissure invasion may receive more effective treatment with 4 MV x-rays rather than with 6 MV and 10 MV x-rays. |

Abstract | 現代の医療のなかで癌治療において不可欠な存在となった放射線治療。一方,放射線被曝はたとえわずかであってもリスクが伴い,厳しく規制されている。ただし医療被曝はこの限りになく,過去においては癌患者に放射線治療をおこなう際の患部以外の被曝についてはあまり問題視されなかった。これには癌の治療という前提に加え,長期生存の可能性が低く,存命中に晩発障害が発生することが低いと考えられていたからである。しかし,集学的治療が確立した今後の放射線治療においては完治する放射線治療患者が多くなり,治癒後の余命が長くなることが予測される。放射線被曝による確率的影響は閾値がなく,影響は当然現れるであろう。そこで,放射線治療をおこなう際の患者の散乱線被曝線量,治療室内散乱線量,さらに高エネルギー放射線発生装置を取り扱うときに問題となっている中性子を測定した。その結果,測定線量は治療患部外被曝,室内散乱線量ともに無視できない量であることがわかった。中性子については,人体に影響がある線量は検出されなかったが,中性子の存在は室内物品の放射化の可能性を示唆するもので定期的な測定管理が必要である。また,Ⅹ線撮影室用の防護衣による散乱線被曝の低減効果は放射線治療室では無意味であった。 |

Abstract | 生体内の血圧脈波を非侵襲的に計測する手法として,「トノメトリ法」が知られており,近年,この計測手法を用いて得られた血圧脈波波形から,動脈硬化などの循環器系疾患のスクリーニングや予防診断に役立てようという動きが活発である。しかしながら,組織内の血管を圧迫した場合の血管の変形挙動については,十分な解析は行われていない。そこで本研究では,生体中のトノメトリ状態を解析可能な数値解析モデルを構築することを目的とした。この結果, トノメトリ法による血圧脈波計測の原理解析を行うための血管断面構造の応力解析モデルには,以下の要件が求められることが明らかとなった。・センサ部と皮膚表面はそれぞれ独立な要素としてモデル化し,これらの接触部においては摩擦を考慮しなければならない。・応力の定量的な解析を行うためには,素材の非線形的な機械的特性を考慮する必要がある。さらに,実験結果と計算結果を一致させるためには,初期形状を正確にモデル化することが必要であることがわかった。 |

Abstract | It has long been considered that central nervous system would not regenerate after injury, but this concept has recently been changing due to the development of neuroscience research. Cell grafting, gene transfer and neurotrophic factor administration into the brain and spinal cord are the examples of methods to perform protection and repair. These techniques are expected to be applied to certain neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, cerebral ischemia and spinal cord injury. Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the nigrostriatal system. Fetal neurons, chromaffin cells, cell lines, certain genes, neural stem cells, ES cells and bone marrow cells have been investigated as donor cells and vectors to treat Parkinson's disease. This review will summarize the history of neural transplantation in Parkinson's disease and features and prospects of each donor will be discussed. |

Title Alternative | The Failure of Democratization and Economic Liberalism in Poland in the Interwar Period |

Abstract | This article is to analyze the reasons of the failure of democratization and economic liberalism in Poland in the interwar period. Poland had failed to establish assembly democracy and a liberal market economy system, which allowed the Pilsudski's coup d'etat and etatism (economic interventionism of the state) to become dominant. This article will attempt to show why the Polish liberal economic policy collapsed and what political and economic conditions were instrumental to the rapid growth of authoritarianism by analyzing not only the economic aspects but the relationship between the parliament, government and president, etc. The economic liberalization and democratization tried out in newborn Poland successively failed due to the immature political bodies, conflict among the parliament, president and government, and the immature market. The administration established after the coup d'etat of Pilsudski was backed up by the worldwide economic recovery and stabilized economic situations of the mid twenties, but not able to take any effective measures against the world financial crisis post 1929. During the 20 years of the interwar period, economic liberalism was always in the mainstream of economic policy, but there was no positive and strong ideology in the background of the appearance of etatism. The market was too feeble to support the unstable Polish economy, and under those conditions, strong intervention by the state in the economy could not be avoided. |
