Title Alternative Non-calcareous beachrock found in Akagurisaki, Ohi Town, Fukui Prefecture

Abstract Beachrock which was formed about 0.5 meter higher than high tide is found in Akagurisaki, Ohi Town, Fukui Prefecture. The outcrops always get wet by spring water. The sediments are composed of well sorted rounded gravels and sands but calcareous shell is not found at all. Intergranular space is occupied by white amorphous cement. Magnesium and silicon rich composition of the cement is obtained by EPMA analysis. There is a conjecture that the magnesium rich cement was precipitated in spite of solution of calcareous shell under saturated state by spring water, because calcium has a higher tendency to ionize than magnesium.

Title Alternative Extracorporeal Excretion of Mercury from Mice Using Molybdenum Complex
FullText URL poalas_034_005.pdf
Author Aikoh, Hiromi|
Abstract Extracorporeal excretion of mercury by two molybdenum complexes was investigated using mice after injection of metallic mercury or mercuric ion. After injection of metallic mercury into mice, the mice that received the incomplete cubane-type sulfur-bridged nitrilotriacetato molybdenum (IV) complex ([Mo3S4(Hnta)3]2-, referred to as the NTA complex) had the highest mercury content in their urine on the first day, followed by L-cysteine solution and then water. On the other hand, after injection of mercuric ion, the urinary mercury excretion from the mice that received various concentrations of the incomplete cubane-type sulfur-bridged cysteinato molybdenum (V) complex ([Mo2O2S2(cys)2]2-, referred to as the CYS complex) showed a higher level than that of mice that received water (control group). The mercury content in the heart and lungs of the group that received the CYS complex solution decreased in comparison with that of the group that received the water. At the same time, the mercury level in the kidneys for the CYS complex solution group showed the tendency to increase relative to the group that received water.

Abstract The primary toxicity of hydrogen peroxide results from its interaction with catalase, which liberates water and oxygen. We report the case of a 14-year-old Japanese girl with portal venous gas that was caused by oxygen liberated from intentionally ingested hydrogen peroxide. Although she had a past history of atrial septal defect, recovery without cardiac or neurological sequelae was achieved using hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Emergency physicians must be aware of the danger of liberated oxygen due to hydrogen peroxide ingestion.

Abstract In recent years, it has become evident that molecular hydrogen is a particularyl effective treatment for various disease models such as ischemia-reperfusion injury; as a result, research on hydrogen has progressed rapidly. Hydrogen has been shown to be effective not only through intake as a gas, but also as a liquid medication taken orally, intravenously, or locally. Hydrogenʼs effectiveness is thus multifaceted. Herein we review the recent research on hydrogen-rich water, and we examine the possibilities for its clinical application. Now that hydrogen is in the limelight as a gaseous signaling molecule due to its potential ability to inhibit oxidative stress signaling, new research developments are highly anticipated.

Abstract Turkey has been undergoing very important economic and social changes since several decades such as economic growth, privatization of state enterprises, liberalization, and integration with the EU, and legislative reforms. All sectors in Turkey and production levels are affected by these changes during the years. Crop production in agriculture is one of the most affected sectors. Many policies by governmental/nongovernmental organizations have been applied and supported for the development of the sector such as modernization, mechanization, irrigation, road constructions, potable water, financial supports, agricultural insurance, and technical supports. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to look back and analyze the trend of agricultural changes, land use and related production levels in Turkey.
