| 抄録 | In this study, we examined the change of rice cultivation in consideration of the global warming. In Japan, rice which is suitable for subtropical zone is grown even in an environment of cool-temperate climate. Since the rice varieties that resist of cold weather have been developed, rice cultivation spread to north parts of the country gradually. Land productivity of rice has also improved markedly. As a result, northern Japan became the main producer of rice. Now, taking not only crop production but also the landscape formation and preservation of the natural environment into account, we should think about the rural society from different aspects. |

| 抄録 | For evaluating statistical models one of the most effective criteria is cross-validation. But it requires a large amount of computation. Various alternative schemes are considered to reduce its computation. Modified generalized information criterion is one of those alternative schemes. In this criterion an influence function is used to estimate the parameters of the models. By the numerical simulation we studied the effect of an influence function. Surveying data of the lake depth are used as the sample data. We estimate the shape of lake bottom as spline surface. The estimated parameters and the estimated depths obtained by two criteria are compared and the effect of an information function is analysed. |

| 抄録 | 本稿は、岡山大学生対象の英語クラスと留学生対象の日本語クラスとの「合同授業」の実践報告である。これは「国際化」を教育目標のひとつに掲げている本学で、岡山大学生と留学生の交流を促進し、グローバルコミュニティーを構築する授業実践の試みであった。その狙いは単なる「話すスキル」向上ではなく、外国語を学ぶ学生同士が助け合うことによる社会心理的な自己効力感の促進であり、学期末に行ったアンケート調査によるとどちらのクラスにもその効果が見られた。また英語学部と日本語学部という学部を超えた合同授業によって得られる成果の可能性と同時に課題についても検討する。 |

| 抄録 | 1788年に著わされた二篇の詩作品、『静寂』と『テック山』は、共にマウルブロン時代の詩作の最後を飾るに相応しい、密度の高い作品となり得ている。『静寂』においては詩人によって頻繁にその否定相において捉えられる環境世界に対し、想念レベルで優位的に対峙しうる対立項が「静寂」の表徴の下に構成的に呈示され、主体と対象世界相互の相克という動的形式の進行の果てに、この根源性の領域へと回帰して行こうとする詩人の強度の傾向性が示される。また『テック山』では、所与の社会的総体に対して、時間的進行の後にその代替物として出現すべき、新たな共同体形成の萌芽的イメージが、山岳及び自然という重要因子の作用の下で内的変容を実現する民衆という具体物の描写を通して示唆される。と同時にそこでは、前近代ないしは反近代の性格を有する諸価値を中心原理として定立しようとする方向性も、明確に確認することが出来る。 |

| 抄録 | This article describes the methods and rationale of the Okayama University LEC English Program evaluation. The methods include summative measures （TOEIC and TOEIC SW） to see if the program is helping students improve their English proficiency. Formative measures are also being utilized to understand various aspects of students’ communicative competence and language learning to consider ways to improve the program. These measures include surveys on learner affect（ motivation and anxiety）, a reading strategy survey, and vocabulary tests. The results of the pretest measures will be reported and possible implications will be discussed. |

| 抄録 | TED Talks are short, passionate and engaging speeches by experts on important topics. Delivered at TED conferences, they are recorded for all to see freely online. Recently there have been a growing number of smaller TED-sanctioned but independently organized “TEDx” conferences taking place throughout the world. This paper reflects on a visit to TEDxYouth@Kyoto 2013, a conference held by Kyoto area university students, and addresses why involving language learners in TEDx conferences might prove beneficial, not only for sharing ideas, but also for English practice and development as global citizens. |

| 抄録 | This exploratory study will begin with a review of cinematic portrayals of teachers and their situations by establishing three categories: thought-provoking stories of teachers and students trying to overcome social barriers, entertainment first productions with an uplifting resolution of conflict, and documentaries that track the real-life struggles and successes of educational practitioners and their students through projectbased training and performance. Then I will use forms of reflective practice and discourse analysis to delve deeper into the details of teaching and context. This working paper will conclude with some thoughts on what ‘good’ teachers do. |

| 抄録 | 岡山大学では平成25年度入学者から英語新カリキュラムを導入し、新１年生のスキル別科目の「総合英語１－４」（スピーキング、リーディング、ライティング、リスニング）は習熟度別クラス編成を行っている。本稿は、言語教育センター英語系が前期末の７月に実施した授業満足度に関するアンケート調査結果を分析したものである。入学時４月のTOEIC IP スコア395点以下、400点以上595点以下、600点以上の習熟度別グループに分け て学生の授業満足度の平均値をみると、習熟度の低いグループよりも高いグループの満足度が高い傾向がみられた。また、授業満足度に影響を与える要因は、習熟度別グループおよび担当教員グループによって異なることがわかった。 |

| 抄録 | 本稿は平成25年度前期の「総合英語３」（ライティング）において, Web Class を利用したライティング授業を報告するものである。Web Classは岡山大学教育開発センターIT活用教育専門委員会・e-Learning 支援室が提供する基盤システムであり，本稿の実践クラスでは，おもに課題のやりとり，教員からのフィードバック，およびピアレビューなどがもちいられた。学期末に実施した振り返りアンケートからは，上級レベルの学生は「ピアレビュー」に，初級レベルの学生は「教員からのコメントフィードバック」にWeb Class の機能としての効果を認識していることがわかった。Web Classの利用は英語ライティング授業のアクティビティーの選択肢を広げることになると思われるが，学生のレベルや指導の目的を考慮したうえで，利用が求められることもあらためて確認された。 |

| 抄録 | 岡山大学言語教育センターでは、英語コミュニケーションを実践する場を設けることにより、１．学生の英語学習意欲の向上や自律学習の促進につなげる、２．留学生との交流を通して異文化理解力を培う、などを目的として、平成21年５月にイングリッシュ・カフェを開設した。そして、それは４年後には当初の約８倍以上の広さを持つL-café（ソーシャル・ラーニング・スペース/ 語学カフェ）へと発展。本稿では、活動データと学生アンケートを基に４年間の軌跡をたどり、スタートしたばかりの初期、使用言語や学生スタッフ採用が始まった第二期、学生が積極的にカフェ運営に参加するようになった第三期に分類した。その結果、ソーシャル・ラーニングの実践とスチューデント・ティーチャーをはじめとする学生の積極性がカフェの発展の大きな要因の一つであることが考えられる。 |

| 抄録 | The purpose of this study is to examine a ‘popular’ tutor’s beliefs on feedback and her regular tutee’s receptivity toward the feedback in order to investigate factors involved in giving ‘good’ feedback within intercultural settings. The data was gathered by interviewing a pair of L1 tutor and L2 tutee and observing their tutorial sessions. The results revealed the importance of three points: building a ‘safe house’ for both the tutor and the tutee, respecting the tutee’s ‘writer’s identity,’ and using praise in an appropriate way. This research was conducted at a writing center; however, the findings offer important insights into feedback that are applicable to language teachers in multicultural and multilingual settings as well. |

| 抄録 | キャンパス・アジアでは長期派遣学生に対して語学（中国語あるいは韓国語、および英語）を中心とする「派遣前研修」を実施している。2013年度春期学生派遣に際して、前年度の研修内容を改良し、派遣前研修プログラムを実施した。改良の要点は、１）派遣学生の決定から渡航までの継続的最長期間を利用すること、２）チューター制度を活用し、グループ講義・対面学習（チューター）・自習支援という複数の学習機会を組み合わせた点である。派遣前研修は、短期間ではあるが、留学経験の乏しい学生にとって、実質的・心理的準備を支援する重要な役割を果たすことが成果として確認された。本研修プログラムの一定の成果と課題は、今後増加していくと考えられる派遣留学プログラムの充実化を図るに際して共有できるものであると考える。 |

| 抄録 | The present paper focuses attention on an influence of Darwinism as seen in the discourse of Felix Holt, the Radical. True George Eliot’s early and middle-period novels show signs of a vision of Natural History with its emphasis on scientific observation of the natural world. But as the impact of The Origin of Species (1859) sent a shock wave among the intellectual circle across Europe, she became growingly aware of its farreaching implications. Inevitably Eliot’s novelistic discourse has become permeated with the evolutionary outlook and terminology. Felix Holt marks a turning point in the sense that it is structurally conceived by the method of experimental science, and is clothed in its phraseology. We see how the writer’s moral and religious vision finds itself subtly reconciled with scientific world view. |
