| 抄録 | In this paper, I focus on the characteristics of Japan and the Japanese people as portrayed in his writings by U Hla, a trader from Myanmar who studied the Japanese economy and industry, and the behaviour of the Japanese people during his visit to Japan in 1936. The aim of this paper is to know why U Hla wanted to visit Japan, what he learnt during his business trip to Japan, what kind of knowledge he acquired from Japan, why he was interested in the banking system, and how he applied the knowledge he gained in Japan after he returned to Myanmar. The primary and secondary sources for this study came from the National Library of Myanmar, Universities’Central Library, University of Yangon Library, University of Maubin Library, and Internet archives. |

| 抄録 | This paper deals mainly with the relations between Myanmar and Japan. In this study, a prominent figure from Myanmar politics who visited Japan and his endeavor to develop the relations between the two countries will be presented. At the beginning of the 20th century, the cordial relations between Myanmar and Japan did not exist. In 1907 Sayadaw U Ottama’s visit to Japan that the Myanmar began to take an interest in Japan. After Japan appeared as a modernized nation, the reform movements and achievements of Japanese was emulated by Myanmar. Likewise, it is assured that Myanmar nationals such as political leaders and entrepreneurs from all sectors have the desires to achieve as an Asian country like Japan. Therefore, how did the prominent figures from Myanmar nationals at that time study and observe about the achievements of Japan will be discussed in this paper. Moreover, the advantages of the Japanese developed achievement under observation and the some disadvantages of Myanmar under British administration and the necessary factors to make reforms will be researched. By conducting this research, it aimed to know not only the efforts to develop the Japan – Myanmar relations at present but also efforts to develop the relations in the past and it also aimed to observe costumes and traditions of both countries. The primary and secondary sources to write this paper was obtained from the National Library of Myanmar, Universities’Central Library, University of Yangon Library, University of Maubin Library and Internet Archive. |

| 抄録 | Abnormalities of whole gut transit could contribute to the maldigestion and digestive symptoms of chronic pancreatitis patients. Whole gut transit was measured by radiopaque markers method. Fifteen chronic pancreatitis patients (2 females, 13 males; age range 40-78 years) and 17 controls (4 females, 13 males, 32-73 years) were studied. Additionally, we also looked for evidence of autonomic neuropathy in the chronic pancreatitis patients by using cardiovascular tests. In chronic pancreatitis, whole gut transit was shorter than controls. These abnormalities were not influenced by the degree of autonomic neuropathy. We conclude that whole gut transit is shorter in chronic pancreatitis patients. |

| 抄録 | In 1990s, there were rapid increases in the number of HIV epidemics and AIDS cases in Thailand, Southeast Asia. In particular the risk of HIV infection was very high among female prostitutes who played a large part in the transmission of HIV infection. We formulated a mathematical model for the transmission of HIV in prostitutes. We carried out the model simulations to analyze the incipient spread of HIV infection and the effect of AIDS prevention methods in prostitutes. The simulation of our model indicates that even if the effect of AIDS prevention methods such as the recommendation of condom use for commercial sex workers would block the transmission at rate by 70%, the elimination of the HIV epidemic is still beyond attainment. |

| 抄録 | IgE-mediated release of histamine from whole blood was examined in two healthy and four asthmatic subjects by dose-dependent fashion. The significantly increased amount of histamine was released from basophils of both healthy and asthmatic subjects by a limited concentration of anti-IgE. Antigen (house dust) caused histamine release only from basophils of asthmatics who are sensitive to house dust. Basophils from one patients with asthma released no significant amount of histamine by anti-IgE. |

| 抄録 | Histamine released from whole blood was determined by an automated fiuorometric histamine analysis system. The increased release of histamine from basophils by anti-IgE was observed in ten healthy subjects and 12 extrinsic asthma patients, while the release in 11 intrinsic asthma patients was significantly less as compared to that in healthy and extrinsic asthma subjects. House dust extract caused a significant increase in the histamine release from basophils of the extrinsic asthma patients who are sensitive to house dust. It was concluded from this study that histamine released from basophils could be easily determined by an automated analysis system and that the method is useful for the diagnosis and study of allergy. |

| 抄録 | Histamine releasse from basophils induced by house dust and C. albicans was examined in 30 patients with bronchial asthma. House dust and C. albicans caused a significant amount of histamine release in subjects with a RAST score to corresponding allergen. A close correlation was found between house dust- and anti-IgE-induced histamine release. However, histamine release induced by C. albicans was considerably different from the release induced by anti-IgE. |

| 抄録 | 過去3年間にわたり,気管支喘息患者末梢血好塩基球からのヒスタミン遊離について,ヒスタミン自動分析装置を用いて全血法により検討を加えてきた. 1. 抗ヒトIgE によるヒスタミン遊離は,症例間で著しい差がみられた. この際血清IgE値が高値を示す症例では全般的に高度なヒスタシソ遊離がみられたが,血清IgE値が正常かまたはむしろ低値を示す症例のヒスタミン遊離は,かなり高度なものから全くみられないものまでさまざまであった. 2.ハウスダストやカンジダなどの抗原物質によるヒスタミン遊離は,特異的IgE抗体依存性であり,抗体価が上昇するにつれヒスタミン遊離は高度となる傾向がみられた. しかし,ハウスダストとカンジダによるヒスタミン遊離には若干の差がみられた. すなわち,ハウスダストと抗ヒトIgE によるヒスタミン遊離の間には密接な関連がみられたが,カンジダと抗ヒトIgEの間には全く関連がみられなかった. またカンジダによるヒスタミン遊離においては,IgE系反応以外の反応が関与する可能性が一部示唆された. |

| 抄録 | Histamine release from basophils induced by anti-IgE was examined in 14 asthmatic subjects with blood eosinophilia. The subjects were divided into two groups; group I (with blood eosinophilia, positive skin test and positive RAST to house dust) and group II (with blood eosinophilia, negative skin test to various allergens and negative RAST to house dust). 1. Serum IgE levels in group I were much higher than those in group II. 2. Maximum percent histamine release induced by anti-IgE was much higher in group I than in group II. 3. Dose-response curve of anti-IgE-induced histamine release in group I showed consistent increase as anti-IgE concentrations increased. while, dose-response curve in group II was very low. These findings suggested that blood eosinophilia in group I might be elicited relating to IgE-mediated reaction. However, mechanism causing eosinophilia in group II was not clear in the present study. |

| 抄録 | In recent years, coulometric analysis has been developed and widely used as a technique for the determination of substances in solution by measuring the quantity of electricity required for the completion of a reaction in an electrolysis cell. Of two coulometric techniques, i. e., coulometric titration with a constant current and coulometric analysis with a controlled potential of a working electrode, the latter is more interesting to the author, because by this method both electrolytic separation and quantitative determination of chemical species can be achieved simultaneously. Especially, the use of a mercury cathode as the working electrode(1)) has an advantage that the optimum control potentials can easily be determinable from polarographic data. In our laboratory, we took up the coulometry of uranium as one of the interesting themes of researches when we had an opPortunity in studying various kinds of analytical methods for uranium in accordance with the request by Japan Atomic Fuel Corporation. The coulometric determination of uranium (VI) by using a mercury cathode at a controlled potential was studied by G. L. Booman, W. B. Holbrook and ]. E. Rein(2)). It was found to be very useful for the analysis of uranium in a highly enriched nuclear element which underwent fission to an appreciable extent. But the instrument used by them(3)) was complicated and expensive. Therefore, a simple counter millicoulometer has been coustructed in our laboratory, a readymade potentiostat (electrical instrument for automatic controlled potential electrolysis) being tried for electrolysis. By these instruments, the author studied the fundam ental conditions of coulometry for uranium and tried the successive determinations of uranium and thallium in mixed solutions. |
