Title Alternative | An Institutionalist Approach to Liberaliam (1) |

Abstract | The aim of this paper is to present a new way of theorizing liberalist political / social doctrines. Formerly, most supporters of liberalism have constructed their political / social theories on the base of "methodological individualism". But here I try to found a discriptive / normative theory of liberal societies on the ground ofa sort of "wholism". A main idea of this paper is to conceptualize "personhood" as one type of institutions. I define "institution" as a expected pattern of actions, or a system of rules of conducts, and see "person" as the special type of institution, the institution enacted by one physical humane individual. And I make a thoretical modell of liberal society as a band of different types of institutions. In this modell, "person" is not a sort of "social atom", but have a very specific functioning. |

Title Alternative | OUR EXPERIENCES OF INTRAARTICULAR HYDROCORTISONE INJECTION AND SPA TREATMENT FOR RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS AND ARTHROSISDEFORMANS |

Abstract | 1. We classified 89 cases of rheumatoid arthritis and arthrosis deformans according to Prof. T. Kodama's criteria as follows: 33 cases of (222) polyarthritis systemica (37%), 15 cases of (221) polyarthritis non systemica (16.8%) 22 cases of (111) monoarthrosis non systemica (24%), and others. 2. We analysed their symptoms following the criteria recommended by the New York Rheumatism Association and Prof. T. Kodama. In many cases of (222), their local and general symptoms were found to belong to Class III or IV, and in many cases of (111) and (221), to Class I or II. This shows that (222), here treated, was severer than (111) and (221) in both local and general conditions. The hepatic disorder and anemia were found to occur in patients with (222). 3. We treated these 89 cases chiefly by spa therapy and intraarticular injection of hydrocortisune, and evaluated the results by the criteria recommended by N. Y. R. A. and Prot. T. Kodama. Each of these treatments was more effective on (111), (121), and (221) than on (222). In all cases, the combined treatment with the said two measures was more efficacious than the separate treatment with each of the two. 4. The effects of the intraarticular hydrocortisone injections, 686 in total and mostly into knee joints, were examined. The most efficacious of these were obtained when the injection was made into fingers, toes or hip joints. In our experiences, the post-injection flare ups and the adverse effects of the treatments were observed in 2.8% of the cases treated, but they lasted only for a few days. 5. Of five cases of (222), where the combined treatment of hydrocortisone intraarticular injection and spa therapy was given for 5-14 months, detailed descriptions are given. By this treatment the physical abilities in joints of patients were improved remarkably and their general conditions were ameliorated gradually without any adverse effects. |

Title Alternative | CHEMICAL STUDY ON SEKIGANE HOT SPRINGS, TOTTORI-KEN |
FullText URL | pitsr_029_038_049.pdf |
Author | Sakanoue, Masanobu| Mifune, Masaaki| |
Abstract | The chemical and physical characteristics of the thermal and ground waters in Sekigane Hot Springs were determined. The content of the following chemical constituents was determined: Cl(-), S0(4)(2-), HCO(3)(-), Ca(2+), As, F, U and Ra. The relationship between water temperature and depth of spring wens was found to be indicative of the presence of a fissure, in agreement with the conclusion reached geologically by Sugiyama. The water temperature, the e1ectricconductivity and the content of chemical constituents of the ground water were as expected markedly lower than those of the thermal water. As a whole, however, the water temperature, the electricconductivity and the content of SO(4)(2-), HCO(3)(-), Ca(2+), As and F are in positive and linear correlation with the Cl- content. In other words, these characteristics of the waters, excluding the U and Ra content, correlate positively and linearly with each other. This was interpreted to mean that a thermal water of high salinity is simply diluted by a cold ground water of very low salinity, and that a ground water of relatively high salinity is contaminated by thermal water. The content of U and Ra of these spring waters is lower than that of the spring waters in Ikeda, Shimane-ken, and Misasa, Tottori-ken, where radioactive springs also issue. Finally, it is concluded that As and F will be as useful as Cl- in chemically locating a new site for a spring well in Sekigane because of the low contamination due to human life of ground water by these elements. |
