抄録(別言語) | This paper aims to describe the practice of a Japanese extensive reading course in detail and examine learners’ initiatives and perspectives in the course framework by analyzing their journals and interviews. The result indicated that the learners attempted to accommodate their reading behavior for extensive reading according to the teacher’s orientation, and it caused them to perceive an increase in their reading rate and to change their attitude towards reading in Japanese. It was also suggested that the reading community with other learners led to diversification in the choice of reading materials and contributed to the development of their reading habits.
