| Abstract |
Male rats were made either anemic by blood depletion or polycythemic by red blood cell transfusion, then joined to female rats by aortic anastomoses. Sex chromosome analyses were made of the bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes and thymus. These analyses showed a hight level of chimeric cells between 5 and 10 days after parabiosis. Anemic males had the highest rate and plethoric animals had the lowest. The chimeric rates in the bone marrow depended largely on hemopoietic avtibity. Thr findings indicate that cieculating nucleated cells maintained high hemopoietic and lymphopoietic activity.
