Abstract | A portable system has been developed for measuring biomechanical impedance on the skin surface. The measurement system comprises a measuring probe and a measuring device. The probe is of the pen-type. The device includes a random noise source, amplifiers, an A/D converter, a microcomputer, a liquid crystal display and a floppy disk unit. The biomechanical impedances on the skin surface are measured and the skin viscoelasticity are obtained. SI (stiffness index) is proposed as the new index of skin stiffness. The coefficient of correlation between SI and palpation scores is 0.797 |
