Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify what rookie elementary school teachers rely on to form their perspectives on social studies and how they try to develop their own perspectives on social studies. I conducted interviews with rookie elementary school teachers hearing their own views on social studies and the process of forming their perspectives on social studies. As a result of the survey, it was revealed that the perspective of social studies held by rookie elementary school teachers is in the process of forming their own view of social studies while filling in the gaps through encountering new experiences and values, such as observing children in daily classes, researching teaching materials, and experiencing student guidance, based on what they learned in the seminar they belonged to in order to write their graduation thesis in college. In addition, with regard to the image of children that they want to nurture through social studies, teachers' aspirations for a better future society are at the core of their thinking about the role of social studies, and they recognize that social studies is a subject that is closely related to student guidance and life guidance.
