A Study of Teaching Materials Used for Disaster Prevention Education in Early Childhood and its Requirements

Abstract
 本論では,地震災害や地震防災に焦点を当て,幼児期の防災教育に活用されている具体的な教材を取り上げ,それらに見る共通の特徴や要素について検証した。それらを踏まえ,教育効果を期待できる幼児期に適した教材の条件について検討したところ,①子どもの発達過程や興味関心に即している,②遊びを通して学べる,③歌唱や身体表現を伴う,④子どもにとって親しみのある生き物や人物が登場する,⑤手軽に入手できる,⑥生活に密着している,等が求められると考えられた。幼児期の防災教育における今後の教材開発に関する課題は,被災経験を有さない多くの子どもに対する現実味のある防災教育を実現させること,自然災害が発生する簡単なメカニズムについて知的好奇心が高まる教材を開発すること,が挙げられた。

This paper discusses specific teaching materials used for disaster prevention education in early childhood, especially earthquake disasters and earthquake disaster prevention, and examined common features and factors of the materials. In the view of the above, the following 6 requirements were derived as teaching materials suitable for early childhood and expected to have educational benefits; they should be (1) in line with children's developmental processes and interests, (2) enable learning through play, (3) involve singing and physical expressions, (4) included familiar creatures and characters for children, (5) be easily accessible, and (6) be closely related to children’ s daily life. Future issues in the development of teaching materials for disaster prevention education in early childhood are to realize realistic disaster prevention education for many children who have never experienced a disaster. Moreover, it is also important to develop teaching materials that increase children’ s intellectual curiosity about the simple mechanisms of natural disasters.
