Abstract
The following facts were revealed after interviewing the previous households on the awareness and current status of the maintenance and preservation of their residential exterior such as rooftops and outer walls. (1)By cleaning the outer walls or gutters, residents were able to become aware of any external deterioration or damage at an early stage. (2)Each household has their own trustworthy roof-repairer or carpenter serving them generation after generation, who will look after their residences and immediately repair any small damages. (3)The project to preserve groups of significant traditional constructions is effective in economically supporting the maintenance of such residences and also arousing the awareness in that respect. (4)Residents have the desire to continue living in such residences for a long period of time, and thus are concerned about its maintenance and preservation.
