Golgins are a group of proteins with coiled-coil structures that localize to the Golgi and are thought to function as tethers to facilitate the docking of vesicles, Rab GTPases, and cytoskeleton components to the Golgi stack. Giantin is the longest golgin and has been thought to function as a tether for COPI vesicles along with other golgins, such as p115 and GM130. Contrary to our expectation that the loss of the tether will result in an increase in untethered COPI vesicles in the cytoplasm, our electron microscopy observations showed that the fenestrae normally present in Golgi cisternae were reduced upon Giantin knockdown. We also found that this structural change is accompanied by altered secretion of cargo proteins and cell surface glycosylation. These results indicate that there exists a correlation between Golgi structural changes caused by the loss of Giantin and Golgi function. Here, we describe electron tomography methods for the detection of structural changes in the Golgi. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.Humana New YorkActa Medica Okayama2022A Primer on Deep Learning-Based Cellular Image Classification of Changes in the Spatial Distribution of the Golgi Apparatus After Experimental Manipulation275285ENDaisukeTakaoDepartment of Cell Biology and Anatomy and International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN), Graduate School of Medicine, The University of TokyoYuki M.KyunaiFaculty of Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology, Okayama UniversityYasushiOkadaDepartment of Cell Biology and Anatomy and International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN), Graduate School of Medicine, The University of TokyoAyanoSatohGraduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems, Okayama UniversityThe visual classification of cell images according to differences in the spatial patterns of subcellular structure is an important methodology in cell and developmental biology. Experimental perturbation of cell function can induce changes in the spatial distribution of organelles and their associated markers or labels. Here, we demonstrate how to achieve accurate, unbiased, high-throughput image classification using an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. We show that a convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm can classify distinct patterns of Golgi images after drug or siRNA treatments, and we review our methods from cell preparation to image acquisition and CNN analysis. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.Springer International PublishingActa Medica Okayama0302-9743128352021(Short Paper) Evidence Collection and Preservation System with Virtual Machine Monitoring6473ENToruNakamuraKDDI Research, Inc.HiroshiItoGraduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama UniversityShinsakuKiyomotoKDDI Research, Inc.ToshihiroYamauchiGraduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama UniversityIn a system audit and verification, it is important to securely collect and preserve evidence of execution environments, execution processes, and program execution results. In addition, memory footprints have increased in size, as multiple programs are executed on a single computer. Many operating systems manage physical memory by paging a 4 KB page. Therefore, the number of entries in the virtual address translation table for virtual to physical increases along with the size of the memory footprints. This cause a decrease in the translation lookaside buffer (TLB) hit ratio, resulting in the performance degradation of the application. To address this problem, we propose the implementation of physical memory management with two page sizes: 4 KB and 4 MB. This allows us to expand range of addresses to be translated by a single TLB entry, thereby improving the TLB hit rate. This paper describes the design and implementation of the physical memory management mechanism that manages physical memory using two page sizes on The ENduring operating system for Distributed EnviRonment (Tender OS). Our results showed that when the page size is 4 MB, the processing time of the memory allocation can be reduced by as much as approximately 99.7%, and the processing time for process creation can be reduced by as much as approximately 51%, and the processing time of the memory operation could be reduced by as much as 91.9%.No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENYukoKataokaAtsukoNakagawa10.18926/61938No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. 145231EN10.18926/62451No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. 310334EN10.18926/62453No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. 232309EN10.18926/62452No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. 176EN10.18926/62291No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. 77144EN10.18926/62450No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.Okayama University ESD Promotion CentreActa Medica Okayama2020Guide for the Effective Dissemination of the Asia-Pacific ESD Teacher Competency Framework : The Second Report of the Project "Teacher Education for ESD in the Asia-Pacific Region"ENOkayama University ESD Promotion CentreOutputs of the Second Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting on Teacher Education for ESD: Towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through Education<br>

Former Japanese governments saw them as a national disgrace and forced them to reside in leprosaria. Since the law requiring isolation continued after the silver bullet was developed, survivors could not leave the leprosaria and return to society. Currently, survivors’ average age is 82 and they live in 13 national sanatoriums. When they pass away, the history of Hansen’s disease in Japan will end, so we must record their experiences. We conducted qualitative and inductive studies with survivors. In this chapter, we reconstruct them from the perspective of bioethics and propose several theories surrounding them: (1) How former leprosaria and medical administrations in Japan threatened bioethical principles; (2) the wisdom of aging survivors, who lived through extreme situations, and what real restoration of their rights might look like; and (3) the ethical dilemmas of how we will care for the survivors―who have multiple severe sequelae―until they all pass away. These are considered as fossil RNA viral elements integrated into host genomes by as-yet-known mechanisms, and in many cases, those fossils are estimated to be millions-of-years-old. It is likely that the number of NRVS records will increase rapidly due to the growing availability of whole-genome sequences for many kinds of eukaryotes. Discovery of the novel NRVSs and understanding of their phylogenetic relationship with modern viral relatives provide important information on deep evolutionary history of RNA virus-host interactions. In this chapter, therefore, the common strategies for the identification and characterization of endogenous NRVSs from plants, insects, and fungi are described. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.Springer, DordrechtActa Medica Okayama2013DroidTrack: Tracking Information Diffusion and Preventing Information Leakage on Android243251ENSyunyaSakamotoGraduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Okayama UniversityAn app in Android can collaborate with other apps and control personal information by using the Intent or user’s allowing of permission. However, users cannot detect when they communicate. Therefore, users might not be aware information leakage if app is malware. This paper proposes DroidTrack, a method for tracking the diffusion of personal information and preventing its leakage on an Android device. DroidTrack alerts the user of the possibility of information leakage when an app uses APIs to communicate with outside. These alerts are triggered only if the app has already called APIs to collect personal information. Users are given the option to refuse the execution of the API if it is not appropriate. Further, by illustrating how their personal data is diffused, users can have the necessary information to help them decide whether the API use is appropriate. No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. EN10.18926/63140No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.岡山大学文学部Acta Medica Okayama2187-4379342012OBERMAN OU LES ALÉAS D’UNE ŒUVRE AU PAYS DU SOLEIL LEVANT : RÉCEPTION DU ROMAN DE SENANCOUR AU JAPON1255ENNaoyukiHagiwaraNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.InTechActa Medica Okayama2012Use of Silicone Elastomer-Based Microfluidic Devices and Systems in Reproductive Technologies243262ENKojiMatsuuraKeijiNaruseNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. EN10.18926/63139No potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported. ENTomoyoNakaoNo potential conflict of interest relevant to this article was reported.SpringerActa Medica Okayama0065-25982007C. elegans model for studying tropomyosin and troponin regulations of muscle contraction and animal behavior153161ENHiroakiKagawaTomohideTakayaRaziaRuksanaFrederickAnokye-DansoMd.
