抄録 <p>Blood ammonia levels in patients with various liver diseases were determined quantitatively by a simple and rapid method using the Amitest Meter System. The results were compared to those obtained by an enzymatic method and were well correlated. This simple Amitest is also useful in animal experiments, particularly when there is a need to determine blood ammonia levels serially. This paper test was evaluated as being accurate and reliable for clinical and experimental use.</p>

抄録 <p>Cholestasis with htperbilirubinemia was induced in female, but not male, Sprague-Dawley rats by daily treatment with phalloidin for 7 days. Increases in serum direct bilirubin level and alkaline phosphatase (Al-Pase) activity were observed concomitantpy with diminished bile flow and a decreased output of bile acid and cholesterol. Kidht microscope findings of the liver revealed proliferated bile ductules and enhanced mitosis of hepatocytes.</p>

抄録 <p>The effects of insulin and glucagon administration on serum amino acid levels were investigated in patients with severe liver disease, since simultaneous injection of pancreatic hormones has been recently introduced as a therapeutic approach. The changes in serum amino acid concentrations, as observed 3 h after ceasing a 3 h infusion of insulin and glucagon in 500 ml glucose solution, were an elevation of serum branched chain amino acid (BACA) levels and of the molar ratio of BCAA/aromatic amino acid (AAA) levels in patients with liver cirrhosis. Similar increases of serum BCAA levels during the infusion were also observed in patients with fulminant hepatitis. The results suggest that insulin-glucagon therapy for severe liver disease has no harmful side effects at least with respect to alterations in the serum aminogram.</p>

抄録 <p>Serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) concentrations were serially determined during the period following cessation of alcohol on thirty-five medical and psychiatric patients with histories of long-term excess drinking. In all except two cirrhotics with posttransfusion hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma, all AFP determinations for more than 2 months following abstinencewere negative(&#60;40ng/ml). The results suggest that AFP elevations after abstinence from alcohol should raise the question of associated viral hepatitis or hepatoma in alcoholics.</p>

抄録 <p>Hepatic ornithine decarboxylase and aniline hydroxylase activities increased as early as 6h after a single dosing of azathioprine tomale rats and reached maximum levels at the 12th h after the treatment. However, aniline hydroxylase activity dropped to levels mu lower than the cintrols 48 h following azathioprine treatment. The results are discussed with regard to the role of azqathioprine during the promotion of hepatocarcinogenesis.</p>

抄録 <p>&lt;p&gt;plasma tyramine concentrations ewre abnormally high in cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy. Oral administration of berberine hydrochloride corrected hyperyraminemia in cirrhotics and also prevented the elevation of plasma tyramine levels following the oral tyrosine load, probably because of berberine-inhibition of bacterial tyrosine decarboxylase in the intestine. This is a new approach as Anti-amine therapy for cirrhotic patients&lt;/p&gt;</p>

抄録 <p>A 26-year-old male with renal allograft, who received immunosuppressive treatment with azathioprine, presented marked elevations of serum biliary tract enzymes, such as gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (5,609 units/l) and alkaline phosphatase (60.5 Bessey-Lowry units), 14 months after transplantation. Two months later the patient became icteric; he died of respiratory failure 19 months after the renal allograft. Postmortem examination revealed intrahepatic cholestasis with minimal inflammatory cell infiltration, indicating drug hepatotoxicity.</p>
