| Abstract | 日本の近世社会に発達した教育機関の一形態としての着目から，仏教諸教団が設置した僧侶教育・仏教研究機関をとりあげ，修学僧に関する基礎的考察を行う。とくに西本願寺の学林（京都）を扱い，修学僧の地方事例として阿波国の寺院から学林に学んだ僧侶について，学林の学籍簿にあたる史料『大衆階次』にもとづいて把握する。学林の安居制を検討するとともに，阿波国の学林修学僧の出身寺院，修学期間，身分などを考察する。そして，この作業をふまえ，学林修学僧を近世私塾の学習者との関係において位置づける視点を提示する。
