In the present article, the term gswitchingh refers to the alteration of behaviour according to different cultural contexts. This study aimed to identify the mechanism underlying links between perceived discrimination, internal conflict, and switching. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 184 Zainichi Koreans. Path analyses showed that discrimination had a significant effect on conflict (ƒÀ = .31, p < .001), and that conflict enhanced switching significantly (ƒÀ = .25, p < .001). In addition, discrimination directly exerted a significant, positive effect on switching (ƒÀ = .25, p < .001). These findings suggest that switching may ultimately be caused by discrimination on the part of the hostfs majority society or individuals. This studyfs findings contribute to the theory that switching is a way for immigrants to protect themselves if they perceive discrimination from ? or feel conflicted toward ? the society in which they live. en-copyright= kn-copyright= en-aut-name=TanakaTomoko en-aut-sei=Tanaka en-aut-mei=Tomoko kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=1 ORCID= en-aut-name=LeeJungHui en-aut-sei=Lee en-aut-mei=JungHui kn-aut-name= kn-aut-sei= kn-aut-mei= aut-affil-num=2 ORCID= affil-num=1 en-affil=Okayama University kn-affil= affil-num=2 en-affil=Kanagawa Dental University kn-affil= en-keyword=bicultural individuals kn-keyword=bicultural individuals en-keyword=conflict kn-keyword=conflict en-keyword=discrimination kn-keyword=discrimination en-keyword=Japan kn-keyword=Japan en-keyword=switching kn-keyword=switching en-keyword=Zainichi Koreans kn-keyword=Zainichi Koreans END
