Abstract At the early stage of this paper, Okayama prefecture was analyzed by the author focusing on the tendency of main sightseeing-areas based on the number of tourists for three decades (Ichiminami, 2002). In this study, the main sightseeing spots in Okayama pref. are also examined and the developments are explained in a more detailed and updated perspective by extending over current features and the number of tourists. One of the important reasons in a significant increase in tourists in Okayama is the opening of the highways, the bullet train and cross-linking of the Seto Ohashi Bridge. At the same time, there are some waves in the increase or decrease of the tourist trends appearing from several vital developments such as environmental, climatic, social, economic and spatial. In this regard, research objectives of the study are mainly based on investigating and making a comprehensive study on main sightseeing spots in Okayama pref. to find new tourism values and to provide a tourism inventory of Okayama pref. by means of information, data and clues from the field in/between the tourist destinations such as hotel guests, gardens and castles. Therefore, Okayama pref. has a rich potential of historical and cultural heritage in terms of spatial planning and growth. The important point is that the structural adaptation between historical and cultural assets and the city life should be provided and protected for domestic and foreign tourism as much as creating better futures in health tourism, gastronomy tourism, cultural tourism, belief tourism, congress tourism, thematic tourism and local tourism.

Title Alternative Changing Food Production based on Agricultural Enterprises in Tottori Prefecture
FullText URL fest_022_029_054.pdf
Author Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract The study aims to explain the main features of food production in Tottori prefecture focusing on agricultural enterprises. First, the number of farmers and farm households, the area of cultivated land, and their spatial distribution were analyzed. Then, the production trend on rice, livestock, vegetables such as watermelon and leek, and pears was surveyed. Furthermore, by overlooking the features of each enterprise, food production as a regional agriculture was briefly examined. Farm management in Tottori pref. has long been a small scale selfsufficiency property, but has gradually decayed or specialized. Because agricultural workers are continuously decreasing and aging, farming in Tottori pref. should pay attention to the demand of world food while publicizing a process on food production and farmmanagement carefully.

Abstract This study investigated the civil consciousness on the preserved trees in Himeji city, Hyogo prefecture. We conducted data collection in the city hall,,observed preserved trees, and examined the awareness of citizens against the preserved trees in the central area and Syosya-zan Engyo-ji. As a result, it was revealed that the citizens are not indifferent to the natural environment of trees, etc., they also do not have a strong interest in it in particular. As for preserved tree system, there were some slight differences in the recog -nition between the people who actually take care of trees and administration. People are in favor of the need for the current system of preserved trees. However, in Japan, which is blessed with many things, people do not recognize strongly appreciating the natural environment.

Title Alternative Production and Shipment of Eggplant in Okayama Prefecture Focusing on the Eggplant Cultivation in Greenhouse in the 7th Division of the Kojima Bay Reclaimed Land
FullText URL fest_020_013_033.pdf
Author Furuta, Yuichiro| Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract The main purpose of this study is to explain the production and shipment of eggplant and the management of farm households in the 7th division of the Kojima bay reclaimed land in Okayama prefecture. 10 pioneers began to cultivate eggplant in a greenhouse in 1969 and the number of farm households, acreage and shipment increased dramatically until the early 1980s. However, decline or stagnation trend has continued thereafter. Farm workers are often 50 years old or more, each farmer has cultivated eggplant, rice, two-rowed malting barley in family management by 2 or 3 persons. Work begins in July. Eggplant seedlings are planted in August, harvest begins in October and heating in November. Pest control is necessary throughout the year, but pesticide use has decreased in recent years. In order to suppress the occur -rence of the pests, workers use both the bunker crops like sesame and natural enemies like Amblyseius swirskii . However, because the prices of agricultural materials and fuel are recently soaring, the farm management of eggplant has become increasingly severe. We propose to expand the sales network by advertising and a more aggressive acceptance of new farmers.

Abstract Turkey has been undergoing very important economic and social changes since several decades such as economic growth, privatization of state enterprises, liberalization, and integration with the EU, and legislative reforms. All sectors in Turkey and production levels are affected by these changes during the years. Crop production in agriculture is one of the most affected sectors. Many policies by governmental/nongovernmental organizations have been applied and supported for the development of the sector such as modernization, mechanization, irrigation, road constructions, potable water, financial supports, agricultural insurance, and technical supports. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to look back and analyze the trend of agricultural changes, land use and related production levels in Turkey.

Abstract In this paper, we examined the landscape and sightseeing at Bittchu-Kokubunji in Okayama prefecture carrying out the questionnaire survey to tourists and local residents. Both tourists and local residents estimate that the landscape ofBittchu-Kokubunji is wonderful, and it has several images such as historical, quiet, and old-fashioned, etc. AlthoughBittchu-Kokubunji is one of the famous tourist resorts in Okayama prefecture, there are quite few tourists compared with the degree of notability. Almost all tourists' age was 50 or more. As more active sightseeing activities, the number of times of holding events, such as an announcement of traditional performing arts, lighting of a five-storied pagoda, photograph or a sketching convention, needs to be increased. An attractive tourist resort should be created by the cooperation of local residents and administration.

Abstract In Japan, the number of full-time farm households had continued to decrease since the latter half of 20th century. The number of part-time households has been also decreasing remarkably in the last twenty years. Cultivated acreage also aligned with these tendencies and it has decreased. As a result, the farmland which is not cultivated increased and it may also grow into a social problem. Therefore, the present condition and future view of Japanese agriculture was elaborately examined in the study by analyzing the transition of non-cultivated arable lands from a historical perspective.

Abstract In this study, we examined the change of rice cultivation in consideration of the global warming. In Japan, rice which is suitable for subtropical zone is grown even in an environment of cool-temperate climate. Since the rice varieties that resist of cold weather have been developed, rice cultivation spread to north parts of the country gradually. Land productivity of rice has also improved markedly. As a result, northern Japan became the main producer of rice. Now, taking not only crop production but also the landscape formation and preservation of the natural environment into account, we should think about the rural society from different aspects.

Title Alternative Management of Rural Region in Association with Its Regionality of the Western Part of Tottori Prefecture
FullText URL 006_053_065.pdf
Author Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract In this paper the brief history, the status quo and the problem of regional management in association with its regionality were examined in Yodoe town and Mizokuchi town in the western part of Tottori Prefecture. These areas have the focus of Yonago city. Mt. Daisen and Kaike-spring have been well-known, and Tottori Flower Park recently attracts many tourists. However, agriculture also flourishes remarkably in these areas. Although Yodoe town has been celebrated for the waters and traditional umbrella, the town management recently makes the most of acorn and ancient tombs, giving emphasis to international relations and history. In Mizokuchi town the oldest legend of ogre has been investigated intently and the town management in connection with it has been proceeded. As these plannings use their histories and features peculiar to the area as a management concept, they have high originality. As a future problem, it may be necessary to built up a closer connection and coordinate each regional functions within the extensive areas.

Abstract This study examined population data on the quarters or sub-areas in Tottori city in 1960 and 1995. First, the distributions of population data in both years were drawn, then the population changes and the rates were explained. While large increaces and high growth rates were scattered in the suburbs of the city, large depopulation and high decreace rates were clustered in the old core in the built-up areas and rural areas in the hilly and mountainous areas. Second, the rates of population under 15 years old and the rates of population over 65 years old were analyzed. Finally, the age structure of population was examined with 10 samples of the quarters or sub-areas in anticipation.

Abstract In this paper, the tendency of the number of tourists was examined for some 30 years at several sightseeing-areas in Okayama prefecture. Recently, large-scale parks on well-known theme have been built in Japan, the management strategy of sightseeing-spots is becoming harder. However, it is important for us to understand the peculiarity of local sightseeing-areas and advertise the information on unsophisticated nature and culture linked with surrounding ecological system consistently. Sustainable management of sightseeing-areas is affected and sustained by the thought and life-style of peoples living in the adjacent areas.

Title Alternative The Nature of Tsuyama Region based on Changing Chief Industries
FullText URL 008_063_079.pdf
Author Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract In this paper, the nature of Tsuyama region was explained in terms of several changing features such as agricultural, industrial, commercial, and sight-seeing activities. Also, short history of mining sulfide ore at Yanahara Town was described and the population change of surrounding area was analyzed. Although the vitality of agriculture in general has gradually fallen mainly due to the decrease of number of farm household, of the rate of full-time farm household, of the area of farmland, and of the harvested area of rice, tobacco, and Japanese radish, the production of black syobean and the rate of vegetables, etc. have increased. After the highway of Chugoku line was opened to traffic, the number of industrial parks and establishments suddenly increased in and around Tsuyama City and they employed many workers. Within the industries of Tsuyama City, manufactures of genaral and electrical machineries, equipment and supplies developed, but the ones of textile mill products, apparel and other finished products made from fabrics and similar materials declined. In sight-seeing, tourists of Yunogou spa have increased in a satisfactory. Population of the municipalities except Tsuyama City have decreased since 1970 and a number of large-sized stores have come to be located in the suburbs of Tsuyama City.

Abstract Regional development and regional planning subjects are very closely linked with the development projects in Turkey as much as in the world. The main applications and studies are usually based on the elimination of disparities among regions. Within this framework, this study has firstly aimed to set out the regional development objectives in Turkey. Secondly, we tried to find out the effect of new regional approaches on Turkish regional structure. Hence, as an approach different from other studies, we focused on NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) regions instead of geographical units (regions) studies. In the following parts of the study, thirdly, the efforts of Turkey about the regional development have been discussed and assessed by using Neoclassic Growth Model in terms of per capita income distributions for new region groups. To compare the results of analysis among regional units, the most important development projects for Turkey were also taken as a different approach unlike other sudies. Previous studies based on geographic regions showed that the basic tendency of per capita income distribution is 'Divergence' unlike expected 'Convergence' in Turkey, but in our study, we found more optimistic results for Turkey, in which per capita income distributions have a tendency to converge after 1997.

Abstract This study aims to examine the Southeastern Anatolia Project in Turkey, which contains irrigation, energy and drinking water development schemes. The project is the biggest regional development effort ever undertaken by Turkish Government and has influenced the sustainable economic and human development targets. With the completion of each step of the project, it has been expected that there have been many important economic and social changes in Turkish regions, especially the southeast part of Turkey (called as "Southeastern Anatolia Region") and its surrounding areas. The project also interests in both Turkey and its related regions and sustainability is a major issue of concern. Following a brief introduction of the project, the paper examines the type of recent social-economic changes in the region and Turkey in terms of sustainable development components. Under the light of our investigations from different perspectives, it is observed that GAP region with its development project is very far from expectations in the point of sustainability.

Author Luo, Yanjuan| Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract The aim of the study is to explain the present condition of the rows-of-houses preservation policy of Okayama Prefecture and to examine the samples in Maniwa city, Katsuyama area. Besides, the interview investigation was mainly conducted for residents in the rows-of-houses of preservation area in Katsuyama for giving the concluding remarks about the findings. The traditional private houses in Katsuyama preservation area were partially restored in the 1985-89 and 1993-97 fiscal years by the subsidy from the prefecture. Furthermore, Katsuyamacho at that time founded the subsidy system for maintaining rows-of-houses preservation area (about 25.3 ha) independently in 1993, restored 9 private houses, and made and updated the shop curtains; "Noren". In the point of the observable items, the ground warehouse of structures with gable tile-roofing is visible and it is also in use. Moreover, a latticed window structure, a white wall, and a sea cucumber wall constitute the charm of new rows-of-houses. A stone pavement follows on the riverside at the site facing the Asahi River. There are the remains of an arrival-and-departure place of a flat boat and a brewery, etc. According to our investigation in 2002, the residents were satisfied with "It is easy to live quietly", "the beauty of a natural landscape", "harmony of rows-of-houses and a shop curtain", and "a historical atmosphere", but the recognition of "the creation of active rows-of-houses" was unexpectedly low. Therefore, cooperation between residents and informational sharing are much more required. Consequently, since both the visitors and the residents are satisfied very much with each facilities, such as the whole rows-of-houses, a samurai residence, a brewery, and a restaurant etc., town planning is well organized and attained the priority targets.

Abstract In this paper, diversity of agricultural production and its change was examined for some 45 years in Japan and for 1960, 1980, and 2000 in Tottori prefecture. The concept of entropy was used in order to measure the diversity of the agricultural production which consists of some sections. Agricultural production section in Japan has been diversified in the long run. The ratio of rice has been decreasing gradually for a policy of cutting back on the acreage under cultivation. Although the ratio of stock raising and fruits has increased, it tends in recent years to stagnate. The rate of vegetables has increased remarkably. Combination type for every municipalities was determined with the standard value A method, and complemented examination of agricultural diversity.

Abstract More than billions of years, Earth activity and earthquakes have functioned as the most important part in shaping the physical features of our Earth, on both social life and environment. Its unavoidable results always change life styles and city's structures with its positive and negative effects. To diminish those negative effects or avoid precise earthquake hazard, informing society is very crucial that the strong awareness decreases the risk as seen from past experiences all around the world. The research technique is functioned as questionnaire and applied in the area to achieve more realistic information and to maintain the essential arguments. All along the study, it is tried to think up the earthquake phenomena well known and straightforwardly recognized by a considerable quantity of people. Consequently, it is observed in this study that; firstly, telecommunication is most selected item both before and after earthquake in the point of its effectiveness. Secondly, telecommunication tools more preferable though, public announcement more trusting for society as power of affection on personal decision mechanisms. Thirdly, as a new tendency after earthquake, internet preference increased by means of information source about earthquake.

Abstract In this paper, first it is investigated illegally parked bicycles around the Okayama station, withdrawal, storage and return of them. Second, there will be a questionnaire to understand citizen's consciousness and clarify how they have been grasped present condition. Furthermore, it is aimed that considering how to carry out an efficient activity for reducing number of illegally parked bicycles. The results are concluded as follows. It is much more required to strengthening in the criminal prohibition zone by applying withdrawal activities and regulations. Presumably, first it is required to change storage area in order to increase the rate of returned bicycles. Besides, it will be great improvement in rate of return, if definite proportion of area is confidentially secured on storage area near the Okayama station. Moreover, it was remarkable that a citizen was not known in detail about an illegally parked bicycle. On the other side, recognition of most of the suburbanite of Okayama-shi tends to be impervious and replied to affirm illegally parked bicycle. However, the residents who live an area near to station understood the present condition well, and they disapprove to the illegally parked bicycle. Finally, in order to improve present condition, to prevent completely and to decrease the number of illegally parked bicycles publicity work is required.

Title Alternative Transition on Grape Production in Okayama prefecture
FullText URL 13_075_084.pdf
Author Ichiminami, Fumikazu|
Abstract In this paper, we aim to explain the history and areal distribution of grape production in Okayama prefecture with the special attention to the main kinds of grapes. Although Muscat cultivation in glasshouse was already been introduced in the 19th century, grape production had remarkably increased up to mid-20th century. After various kinds of grapes such as Neo-Muscat and Campbell Early have been cultivated, it has come to concentrate on the production of Pioniere in Okayama prefecture. The cultivated area of grapes is, however, decreasing gradually due to aging in the farm labor force and the lack of agricultural successors. In the light of the investigations, this research subsequently stated the outline and the transition of the grape production with the exsisting statistical materials etc.
